Etymology

أَحْرَزَ is the Form IV (أَفْعَلَ) verb built on the Semitic root ح ر ز, which carries the core sense of guarding, fortifying, or keeping something safe. The base noun حِرْز means an amulet or a safe, protected place. Form IV adds a causative and reflexive-benefactive shade, so أحرز came to mean securing something for oneself, and by extension achieving, attaining, or winning it.
