Etymology
جِهَة derives from the Semitic triliteral root و-ج-ه (w-j-h), tied to the idea of a face or front. The original form was wijha, but the initial weak wāw dropped, leaving jiha. The sense moved from the face one turns toward to the direction or side itself, and later to an abstract party or authority.
