Etymology
لَوْك is the verbal noun (masdar) of the hollow verb لاكَ, يَلوكُ, built on the triliteral root ل-و-ك. The root denotes a grinding, repeated chewing motion, the kind a cow makes working its cud. Classical Arabic dictionaries also record a figurative extension, لاك الكلام, to turn words over in the mouth, meaning to repeat or dwell on the same statement.
