Λέιζερ is a direct phonetic borrowing from English "laser", itself an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation". The word entered Greek in the mid-20th century alongside the technology itself, and it kept its foreign shape rather than being adapted to native noun endings. Like many recent technical loanwords, it stayed indeclinable and took neuter gender by default.
