Etymology
Romanian "a adora" entered the language in the 19th century as part of a wave of French borrowings, when Romanian scholars reshaped the vocabulary to look more Latin and more Western European. The French source, "adorer", itself descends from Latin "adorare", built from the prefix "ad-" (toward) and "orare" (to speak, to pray), which in turn comes from "os, oris" (mouth). So the oldest sense was literally speaking or praying toward something.
