Etymology

Romanian borrowed "factor" in the 19th century as part of a wave of French and Latin loans that modernized the language. It traces to Latin "factor", an agent noun meaning "one who makes or does", built on the verb "facere" (to do, to make). The word kept its Latin sense of an active element producing an effect, and Romanian also picked up the French sense of "factor" as a postal agent, giving the dated job title "factor poștal".
