Etymology

Romanian borrowed the word directly from English, where it names the SI unit of electrical inductance. The unit itself was named in the late 19th century after the American scientist Joseph Henry, who did early work on electromagnetic induction alongside Michael Faraday. Romanian did not translate or adapt the spelling, so it keeps the English form and pronunciation.
