Etymology
Multa is the definite feminine singular form of the Romanian adjective mult, meaning much or a great amount. Mult comes from Latin multus, inherited directly rather than borrowed later, with the -a ending attached as the Romanian definite article. The same Latin root gave Italian molto, Spanish mucho, and Portuguese muito. The deeper origin of Latin multus is itself disputed among etymologists, so no firm Proto-Indo-European root can be given.
