Etymology
Negociere is a noun formed from the verb a negocia, "to negotiate," itself a 19th-century borrowing into Romanian from French négocier as the language modernized its vocabulary. The French verb goes back to Latin negotiari, built on negotium, "business, occupation," literally "not-leisure" (nec plus otium). Romanian attached its own deverbal suffix -ere to the stem to produce the action noun, following the same pattern seen in asociere and mediere.
