Etymology

Transmisie entered Romanian in the nineteenth century, part of a wave of French-based borrowings that modernized the language's vocabulary. It comes from French transmission, which comes from Latin transmissio, a noun built on the verb transmittere, to send across. That verb combines trans- (across) with mittere (to send). The deeper origin of Latin mittere is not settled, so no PIE root can be given with confidence.
