Etymology
Vultur comes straight from Latin vultur, vulturis, meaning vulture. Romanian kept the word but broadened its everyday sense to cover the eagle as well, the bird best known in folklore and heraldry. The Latin word itself has no securely reconstructed root further back, so its deeper origin is disputed among etymologists.
