Etymology

أَكَّد is the Form II verb of a root carrying the sense of firmness and certainty. Doubling the middle consonant gives the intensive meaning: to make something firm, hence to confirm or stress it. The root also appears with an initial waw in the older variant وَكَّد, which means the same thing. The noun تَأْكِيد, 'confirmation,' is built on the same pattern.
