Etymology
تَأْكِيد is the verbal noun of the Form II verb أَكَّدَ, "to confirm or emphasize." It is built on the root ء-ك-د, a variant of و-ك-د, which carries the sense of binding something tightly or making it firm. The تَفْعِيل pattern turns such verbs into nouns of the action. The word is a native Semitic formation with no Indo-European ancestry.
