Etymology
أَنَّ is a primitive Semitic subordinating particle, a variant of the emphatic إِنَّ that appears in mid-sentence after verbs of knowing, perceiving, and stating to introduce a nominal clause. Both belong to the family Arab grammarians call 'the sisters of إِنَّ' (أخوات إنّ), particles that put the following noun in the accusative while making the predicate nominative. Its origin lies in the common Semitic deictic/asseverative stock rather than in any Indo-European source.
