Etymology

The verb comes from the Semitic triliteral root و-ص-ل (w-ṣ-l), which carries the sense of joining and arriving. The base verb وَصَلَ means to reach or to arrive. The Form IV pattern أَفْعَل adds a causative sense, so أَوْصَل means to make something reach a place, that is, to deliver or convey it.
