Etymology
The word comes from the triliteral root b-k-r, which carries the idea of coming early, above all in the morning. The same root gives bukrah (early morning, and in dialect tomorrow) and bikr (firstborn). It is a Semitic root with no Indo-European ancestry, and cognates run across the Semitic family.
