Etymology
بعث comes from the native Semitic triliteral root ب-ع-ث, attested throughout Classical Arabic and the Quran. It carries two linked senses: sending someone forth, such as a messenger or prophet, and raising something up, especially the dead. The Quran's repeated use of the word for resurrection fixed الْبَعْث as the standard term for humanity's raising on Judgment Day. As a Semitic root, it has no Indo-European ancestor, so it traces to no PIE root.
