Etymology
رَدَّة comes from the triliteral root ر-د-د (r-d-d), meaning to return, repel, or send back. The word itself is the ism al-marra, the noun of a single instance, built on the fa'lah pattern from the verb radda, so it names one occurrence of that returning motion. That single occurrence gives it its main senses: a reaction, a backlash, a rebound, or a relapse. It should not be confused with رِدَّة (ridda), which shares the same root letters but a different vocalization and a specific religious meaning, apostasy.
