Etymology

Tahil comes from the Arabic root a-h-l, which carries the sense of fitness, suitability, and belonging to a family or group. The same root gives ahl, meaning family or people, and the adjective mu'ahhal, meaning qualified. Tahil itself is the verbal noun of the Form II verb ahhala, to make someone fit or worthy for a role. Arabic is a Semitic language, not an Indo-European one, so no PIE root applies here.
