Etymology
جَلْب is the verbal noun of جَلَبَ, the triliteral verb meaning to bring or fetch. The root ج-ل-ب expresses drawing something toward oneself, whether goods, people, or attention. In classical usage جَلَبَ also meant driving livestock or captives to a market, which left the word a commercial color that survives in the modern sense of importing.
