Etymology
طَرْد is the verbal noun of طَرَدَ, to drive away or expel. It comes from the Semitic root ط-ر-د, which carries the sense of chasing or pushing something off. The same word later named a parcel, a thing dispatched and sent on its way. Hebrew and Aramaic keep the root with the meaning of banishing or driving out.
