Etymology
The root ح ق ن carries the core sense of holding a liquid back or storing it in a container. Classical Arabic dictionaries describe حقن اللبن as pouring milk into a skin so it thickens, rather than letting it spill or spoil. Modern medicine took the same verb for injecting a substance into the body, since both actions place liquid into a contained space under control. The formal idiom حقن الدماء, to spare bloodshed, extends the same holding-back sense to violence.
