Etymology
Khalq comes from the Arabic root kh-l-q, which carries the sense of creating, fashioning, or measuring something out precisely. It is the verbal noun of the verb khalaqa, to create, and appears throughout the Quran to describe God's act of bringing the universe and mankind into being. Because Arabic belongs to the Semitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family rather than Indo-European, it has no Indo-European root or cognates.
