Etymology

خُوذَة entered Arabic as a loanword from Persian خود (khōd), which already meant helmet. Arabic speakers added the feminine ending ة to fit the word into the native noun system. Because the root was borrowed rather than built from a native triliteral pattern, it never spawned the wide family of derived verbs and adjectives typical of true Arabic roots.
