Etymology

مُنْتَج is the passive participle of the Form IV verb أَنْتَجَ, meaning to produce or bring forth. That verb rests on the triliteral root ن ت ج, whose original sense in Arabic concerns an animal giving birth or yielding offspring. Over time the root's meaning widened from biological birth to any act of production, so مُنْتَج came to mean the thing brought forth by a process, a product. This is a native Semitic formation, not a borrowing.
