Etymology
زَرْع comes from the Semitic root ز-ر-ع, found across the Semitic languages with the core sense of putting seed into the ground. The same root gives Hebrew זֶרַע (zeraʿ, seed or offspring) and Aramaic zarʿā, seed. Arabic built a verb, زَرَعَ, to sow or plant, and this verbal noun, زَرْع, which covers both the act of sowing and the crop that results. Arabic is a Semitic, not Indo-European, language, so there is no Proto-Indo-European root behind it.
