Word family
Etymology
The word comes from the Arabic triliteral root ط-و-ل (ṭ-w-l), which carries the idea of length. From the noun طُول ("length") the language forms طِيلَة, used in the accusative as an adverb of duration. So "the length of the week" becomes "throughout the week."
