Etymology
غَد comes from the Arabic root غ-د-و, which carries the sense of setting out early in the morning. The same root gives غَدَاة, early morning, and غَداء, the midday meal. The original form was غَدْو; the final weak consonant fell away, leaving غَد. The word is Semitic in origin and has no Indo-European root.
