Etymology
The word comes from the Semitic root f-r-ṣ, which carries the sense of notching or cutting an opening. A فُرْصَة was first a gap or interval, including the lull between two bouts of fever. From that idea of a favorable opening came the modern meaning of a chance one can seize.
