Etymology
حُصُول is the verbal noun of the verb حَصَلَ, from the Semitic root ح-ص-ل. The root carries the idea of what results or remains, as grain remains after threshing, and from this it came to mean obtaining, acquiring, and the occurrence of something. The related مَحْصُول means crop or yield, and حاصِل means result or outcome.
