Etymology
Naql is the verbal noun of the Arabic verb naqala, to move or carry something from one place to another. It derives from the Semitic triconsonantal root n-q-l. From the basic idea of physical moving, the sense widened to transfer, transmission, and the relaying or quoting of speech. Arabic is a Semitic language, so the word has no Indo-European ancestor.
