Etymology
The word derives from the Arabic root n-h-y, which carries the sense of reaching an end and of forbidding. From it comes the noun نِهاية, meaning end or conclusion. Adding the nisba suffix ـِيّ turns the noun into a relational adjective, so نِهائِيّ literally means pertaining to the end, that is, final.
