Etymology
Επέμβαση is a noun formed from the verb επεμβαίνω, which combines the prefix επί (upon, on) with εμβαίνω (to step into, itself εν "in" plus βαίνω "to step, go"). The root βαίνω goes back to the PIE root for going or stepping. Modern Greek uses the noun for acts of stepping in, whether a surgeon operating, an army entering a conflict, or a government interfering in an economy.
