Etymology
Ρεπό is a direct loan from French repos, meaning rest or a day off, and it entered Modern Greek through labor and hospitality vocabulary. French repos descends from Latin repausare, built on pausa, a stop or cessation, which Latin itself had borrowed from Greek παῦσις. In that sense the word completes a loop: a Greek root for stopping or resting passed through Latin and French and came back into Greek in this new borrowed form. The native Greek word ανάπαυση, meaning rest, comes from that same ancient root.
