Etymology
Ανάπτυξη combines the prefix ανα-, meaning up or back, with the verb πτύσσω, meaning to fold. The literal sense is an unfolding, something opened out from a folded state. Over time this concrete image extended to the abstract sense of growth or development. Modern Greek uses it heavily in economic and technical contexts, much as English uses development.
