Etymology
Στοπ entered Modern Greek in the twentieth century as a direct loan from English "stop," alongside cars, traffic rules, and modern sport. It stayed indeclinable, the way many recent loanwords do in Greek. Curiously, English "stop" traces back through Vulgar Latin *stuppare and Latin stuppa ("tow, oakum used to plug a hole") to Ancient Greek στύππη, so the word may be a loan returning to Greek after a long trip through Latin and English.
