Etymology
Φόβος comes from Ancient Greek φόβος, meaning fear or panic flight, tied to the verb φέβομαι, to flee in terror. In Greek myth, Phobos was a minor god personifying fear, son of Ares. The word has passed unchanged in meaning into Modern Greek and gave English its combining form -phobia.
