Etymology
Înger comes from Latin angelus, itself borrowed from Greek angelos, meaning messenger. The Latin an- before a consonant regularly shifted to Romanian î-n, the same change seen in câmp from campus. The deeper origin of the Greek word is disputed and may not be Indo-European at all, so no secure root further back than Greek can be given.
