Etymology

Romanian borrowed "actual" from French "actuel", which itself comes from Latin "actualis", meaning active or practical. "Actualis" derives from "actus", the past participle of "agere", to do or drive. Over time the sense narrowed in Romance languages to mean present-day or current, rather than the English sense of real or genuine.
