Etymology
Adresă entered Romanian from French adresse in the 19th century, during the wave of French borrowings that modernized Romanian vocabulary. French adresse comes from the verb adresser, meaning to direct something toward a target. That verb goes back to Vulgar Latin, built from ad- (toward) plus a form of directus, the past participle of dirigere, to direct or align.
