Etymology
Romanian borrowed "motor" in the 19th century from French "moteur", part of a wave of French technical vocabulary that entered Romanian during its modernization. French "moteur" itself comes from Latin "motor", meaning "one that moves", built on the verb "movere", "to move". The Latin verb traces back to a Proto-Indo-European root meaning "to move" or "to push away".
