Etymology

Agenți is the plural of agent, borrowed by Romanian from French agent in the nineteenth century, during the modernization of Romanian vocabulary. The French word itself comes from Latin agens, agentis, the present participle of agere, meaning to do or to drive. The Latin verb goes back to a root meaning to set in motion, which also gave Romanian words like acțiune and a acționa.
