Etymology
Apărut is the past participle of a apărea, 'to appear.' The verb descends from Latin apparere, a compound of ad- 'toward' and parere 'to come into view, be visible.' Romanian kept the Latin sense closely, extending it to cover published works and sudden problems as well as physical sights. The participle ending -ut is the regular marker for this verb class, seen also in căzut (fallen) and văzut (seen).
