Etymology
Cap descends from Latin caput, meaning head, and Romanian kept the word almost unchanged from spoken Latin. The same Latin root, through a separate Germanic sound shift, also gave English head. Romance sisters such as Italian capo and Spanish cabo trace back to the same source.
