Etymology
Confirmare is the noun form of the verb a confirma, which Romanian took from French confirmer, itself from Latin confirmare, to make firm. The Latin word joins the prefix con- (together, thoroughly) to firmare, to strengthen, from firmus, firm. Romanian regularly turns a verb's infinitive into an abstract noun by keeping the -are ending, so confirmare literally names the act described by a confirma.
