Etymology
Curat comes from Latin cūrātus, the past participle of cūrāre, meaning to take care of or attend to. Something that had been cared for and tended came to be seen as clean and in order, and the word shifted from describing care to describing cleanliness. The same Latin participle gives English curate, a person entrusted with the care of souls.
