Etymology
Decid comes from the infinitive a decide, a modern borrowing into Romanian from French décider, itself from Latin decidere. Decidere is built from de- (off, away) and caedere (to cut, strike). The underlying image is cutting off a matter, ending deliberation with a clean break.
