Etymology
Dovadă entered Romanian from South Slavic, most likely Bulgarian or Serbian dovod, meaning argument or evidence. That form is built from the Slavic prefix do- (up to, toward) and the verb voditi (to lead), so the original sense was something like a leading up to a conclusion. Romanian reshaped the borrowing with its own feminine noun ending -ă.
