Etymology

Împreună descends from Latin. Its final element goes back to the Latin adverb una, the feminine ablative form of unus ("one"), which classical Latin already used to mean "together, at the same time." Romanian fused this with the prefixes în- and pre- to build a single adverb meaning "together." The related verb a împreuna, "to join or unite," comes from the same base.
