Etymology

Romanian borrowed "inclusiv" from French "inclusif" in the nineteenth century, part of a wave of French vocabulary that reshaped modern Romanian. The French word traces to Latin "inclusivus", built on "inclusus", the past participle of "includere", meaning to shut in or enclose. That verb combines "in-" (into) with "claudere" (to close), so the word's root sense is literally about closing something around a thing to hold it in.
